Sustainability at Our Practice

🌍 Sustainability at Our Practice

Caring for your pets — and the planet

We believe that providing excellent care for animals goes hand in hand with caring for the environment. Every choice we make — from how we manage waste to how we deliver anaesthesia — is an opportunity to reduce our environmental footprint and work towards a more sustainable future.

We know that veterinary practices, like many healthcare settings, generate waste and use energy-intensive equipment. That’s why we’re actively taking steps to reduce, reuse, and recycle wherever we can — all while maintaining the highest standards of care for your pets.

♻️ Responsible Waste Management & Recycling

We’ve introduced a number of recycling initiatives throughout the practice to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. Paper, cardboard, plastics, and packaging materials are separated for recycling wherever possible.

We also participate in schemes to responsibly dispose of items that can’t go in household recycling — such as used printer cartridges & batteries. Clinical waste is managed through licensed providers to ensure it is processed safely and in line with current regulations.

You can also return any unused medicines to us for safe disposal.

đź’¨ Low-Flow Anaesthesia: Safer for Pets, Better for the Environment

In our surgical suite, we’ve adopted low-flow anaesthesia techniques using advanced circle breathing systems. These systems reduce the amount of anaesthetic gas required during procedures — helping us to lower our environmental impact while ensuring your pet remains safe and comfortable under anaesthetic.

Volatile anaesthetic agents are potent greenhouse gases. By carefully monitoring gas flow and using well-maintained equipment, we can significantly reduce the amount released into the atmosphere. It’s a small change that makes a big difference over time.

🧼 Reducing Single-Use Plastics

Wherever possible, we’re replacing disposable items with reusable alternatives. We also stock biodegradable poo bags and eco-conscious cleaning products, and we’re  switching to recycled paper goods throughout the practice.

Some single-use items are still necessary for infection control and patient safety, but we continually review our supplies to find more sustainable options as they become available.

🚀 Always Improving

Sustainability is a journey, not a destination. We’re always looking for new ways to reduce our impact — whether that’s cutting down on deliveries, sourcing local suppliers, or engaging staff in eco-friendly initiatives.

If you have any ideas or suggestions on how we can do even better, we’d love to hear them. Together, we can create a cleaner, greener future for everyone — pets and people included.
